Mick O'Brien was an Irish soccer player who was born in Dublin

Career

Mick O'Brien was an eccentric goalkeeper who played in the League of Ireland throughout the 1970s. He began his career with Home Farm F.C. where he was part of a Leinster Youth Cup winning side. In 1967 Mick moved to Athlone Town F.C. who were then in the Leinster Senior League. He spent almost 10 years at Athlone during which time, they would join the League of Ireland. He kept goal during the famous UEFA Cup tie against AC Milan in 1975. Athlone held the Italian giants to a scoreless draw at St. Mel's Park. He also famously delayed a match in Dundalk after breaking the crossbar in 1974 [1]

After leaving Athlone in 1976 , he moved to St Patrick's Athletic and spent 4 years there. He then moved to Bohemians in 1980 and spent 2 years at the club (making 8 league appearances).
